Our plan is to use what we’re good at — renovations and property maintenance — to finance what we’re passionate about: helping animals have a better life across our country. There are countless ways animals can be helped, and we’re focusing on some specific ones. Here is our multi-step plan.

Step 1: Establish EziBuild in Three Cities

We’re going to get EziBuild set up in three cities. We’re currently going strong in Whanganui and are in the process of setting up in Palmerston North. After 2–3 years we’ll start setting up in Wellington. Once our operation is established in all three cities for a couple of years, we’ll have the funding we need to start our animal welfare programme.

Step 2: The Animal Sanctuary

Our programme will begin with the purchase of a decent-sized block of farm land in Whanganui, where we’ll build (or renovate existing) facilities and fence them to allow us to home a large number of animals — primarily dogs and cats, though we’ll work to be able to home other types of animals too.

We’ll focus our efforts on taking and caring for the older animals at places like the SPCA and HUHA — and we give massive credit to these organisations and all the great work they do. These are the animals that have spent years in these facilities without being adopted; the ones that may spend the rest of their life there if they don’t get our help.

We’ll bring these older animals to our facilities where they’ll have large amounts of land to run and play on, and a comfortable place to sleep — purpose built for each type of animal, designed around making them the happiest they can be. The goal is to give these animals a great end to their life, even if that’s another 5 or 10 years away.

A massive benefit of this programme is that it reduces financial strain on places like the SPCA and HUHA. With fewer animals to look after — including fewer vet bills, which are more common in older animals — they can direct more of their resources to those still in their care. People would still be able to adopt these older animals if that’s what they’re looking for.

Step 3: The Non-Profit Vet Clinic

Our next step will be to purchase or build a non-profit vet clinic focused on providing low-cost vet care — removing the cost barrier that many face when trying to look after their animals. Any money the clinic makes above covering its costs will be 100% donated to our animal welfare programmes.

We’d start this programme and the vet clinic in one city, with the eventual goal of opening them up nationwide.
